[edit] Materials and databases
Some of the benefits include: access to over 300,000 items in a variety of formats: books, large print books, audiobooks, books in foreign languages, and books on mp3 players called Playaways which check out. YDL also offers e-audiobook downloads on to your own mp3 players (not Ipods currently). Other types of library items include: cds, DVDs, videos, and magazines. YDL has public access computers with Internet access plus wireless connections for people with their own laptops.
The library has subscriptions to over 40 informational databases like Tumblebooks which is an online collection of animated, talking picture books which teach young children the joys of reading in a format they'll love or Heritage Quest which lets you search for ancestors online. These databases are even available outside of the library if you have a library card.
By visiting YDL's website at http://www.ypsilibrary.org, you can view the catalog of materials and place a request for an item and tell which location you want it delivered to so you can pick it up most conveniently.
YDL even has after-hours pick up lockers. If you are desperate to get a book, but can't make it to the library by closing, you may call in and have that item checked out to you and placed in a locker at any YDL location you select, and then pick it up after 9 pm at your convenience. Avoid overdue fines by renewing your materials online, in person, or by phone (734-482-4110). Or sign up for Library Elf (http://www.libraryelf.com) and let this third party vendor keep tabs on your materials for you and remind you when they are due.
