Yankee Air Museum
From ArborWiki
Museum at Willow Run Airport housing World War Two vintage aircraft built there, including four planes that fly: a B-17, a B-25, a C47 and a Stinson.
Most of the museum was destroyed in a 2004 fire; the Michigan Aerospace Foundation is raising money to rebuild.
[edit] In the news
- Air museum still on the runway, Ann Arbor News, March 2008.
- The museum began 27 years ago with a few people who wanted to restore B-24 bombers that were built in Willow Run Ford plant during World War II. The effort eventually evolved to include vintage planes on display and a major air show that is held annually at Willow Run, this year set for Aug. 9-10.
- The museum burned to the ground in 2004 and organizers were able to save most of the planes in the hangar, but much of the smaller memorabilia was damaged or destroyed.
