From ArborWiki
University Musical Society (UMS) presents dozens of concerts, dance performances, and other artistic events throughout the school year. UMS is now (2007) in its 128th season. UMS's mission statement declares: "One of the oldest performing arts presenters in the country, UMS is committed to connecting audiences with performing artists from around the world in uncommon and engaging experiences."
UMS's main performance venues are Hill Auditorium, the Power Center, and Rackham Auditorium. Other venues used throughout the year include the Michigan Theater and St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church. Performances span chamber music and full orchestras, jazz groups and innovative dance groups. Recently (fall 2006) UMS hosted the Royal Shakespeare Company, which performed The Tempest, Antony and Cleopatra and Julius Caesar.
UMS ushers are volunteers who see the plays for free. For more information, contact Suzanne Dernay at fohums@umich.edu
