M-14 alternative routes

The Wayne County segment of M-14, from Napier Road to I-275, is undergoing a complete reconstruction over the summer and fall of 2006, snarling eastbound travel from Ann Arbor. Here are some alternative routes, roughly north to south.

  • follow US-23 north to I-96, then head back east towards Novi or to I-696. The long way, but easy to navigate.
  • Plymouth Road takes you to the town of Plymouth, and then continues on as Ann Arbor Road at its intersection with I-275. Rural through Superior Township, and then a quick transformation into sprawl at the County line. For some reason, the blinking yellow on Plymouth at Ridge Road was changed to a four-way stop on Friday, 12 May. This completely snarled traffic, backing up Plymouth Road for a mile in either direction during busy periods. It was converted back to a blinking yellow on Wednesday, 17 May.
  • M-153 - Ford Road - goes further south, through to Canton and I-275. Rural up to the edge of the sprawl, and then very busy and dense and slow.
  • I-94 east, then take I-275 or M-39 (Southfield Freeway) north to where you are going.
