[edit] In the news

As it turns out, the skater-politicos we saw on Saturday are not the ones Chronicle readers might be thinking of. Trevor Staples, member of the Ann Arbor Skatepark Action Committee, is also the newly-elected Democratic delegate for Precinct 4 in Ward 5. Trevor was still basking in the glow of his election to this post by dint of his four (possibly five) write-in votes.
The attendees, who filled the small commission room to capacity, ranged in age from 2 to 82. The room filled up slowly, but steadily - it took a full 20 minutes to seat the audience. I had never seen so many children and teenagers manage themselves so respectfully and for such an extended period of time, over an hour, tolerating with uncharacteristic patience the typically glacial progress of meetings of that nature. The speakers, representing three generations, were passionate and eloquent about their desire to place an $850,000 skate park on the campus of Veteran's Memorial Park.
