Mike Anglin is a member of the Ann Arbor City Council (D-5th). He is the owner of the First Street Garden Inn, a bed and breakfast on the Old West Side.

Anglin's first campaign, in 2007, took the "outsider" tone, stating in his campaign material, "I believe that most agree that the current city council has taken actions that threaten our quality of life and are making living in Ann Arbor less affordable." Anglin credited tireless campaigning for his defeat of 3-term incumbent Wendy Ann Woods in that year's primary election, taking 59.6% of the vote.

Council actions he identified included support for new developments such as Zaragon Place, increased water/sewer/storm utility fees, reduced general fund parks money, pursuit of the police/courts expansion of City Hall, and use of brownfield financing and the DDA to aid developers.

During his 2009 re-election campaign against challenger Scott Rosencrans, the Ann Arbor News notes that he has continued, at the Council table, playing the role of outsider perspective - "Running against the plan for a new police-court building meant bridges were burned even before he was sworn in," limiting his ability to advance other issues, and that, "Instead of advancing proposals at the City Council table, Anglin views his role as that of a voice for issues not on the council agenda."

His 2009 campaign lists as his key issues,

  • Push for fiscal responsibility
  • Protect parks and their funding
  • Support the development that respects citizens and neighborhoods

Council Member Anglin won the August 4, 2009 Democratic Party primary with 65% of the Fifth Ward vote. Because he has no announced opponent in the November 2009 general election, he is expected to serve as Fifth Ward Council Member for a second term.
