Michigan Firehouse Museum

The Michigan Firehouse Museum is located at 110 W. Cross Street in Ypsilanti. They house antique fire trucks as well as artifacts and items relating to fire fighting throughout Michigan's history.

The Museum consists of a firehouse built in 1898 which housed the Ypsilanti Fire Department until 1975 when construction of their present firehouse was completed. The Depot Town Rag notes that the building was constructed to "mollify the west-side acrimony", with the north end of the Thompson Block in Depot Town serving as the east side's firehouse.

During National Fire Prevention Week in October 2002, a modern, 10,000 square foot, 3 level addition celebrated its grand opening. This greatly increased the number of artifacts and exhibits the Museum can have on display at the same time.

The operating hours of the Museum are: Open Tuesday - Saturday 10 AM to 4 PM; Sunday 12 NOON to 4 PM; and, closed on Monday. Admission is $3 for adults, $2 for students and seniors, and those under 6 are admitted for free.

The Michigan Firehouse Museum is part of the Motor Cities National Heritage Area.
