Percent for Art - Ann Arbor

An Ann Arbor city ordinance that set aside 1% of the budget for capital improvement project to be used for public (civic) art. The percent for art program was established by ordinance adopted by Council in 2007.

The funds are administered by the Ann Arbor Public Art Commission.

A 2012 millage which would have cancelled the Percent for Art ordinance in favor of a direct millage for arts was voted down by city voters. In December 2012, Council passed a resolution imposing a moratorium on spending percent for arts funds. A Council committee was formed to study how to proceed with public arts funding.

In 2014, Council returned all uncommitted percent for arts funds to the restricted budget accounts from which they were derived. During the Council deliberations on the 2014-2015 City budget, Council approved funding for planning the transition from the percent for arts funding method to a public-private method for funding public art.
