Ypsilanti Mayor Paul Schreiber, elected in November 2006, has proposed an "Ypsilanti 2020" task force made of local community leaders The task force had the mission of envisioning Ypsilanti's future and making recommendations for reaching it. The name refers both to the year 2020, a target for visioning, and "clear" 20/20 vision.

Initially proposed by the Mayor during his campaign as a "First 100 Days" committee, the Task Force took two years before delivering their final presentation.

The Task Force's final report took the form of a printed binder with short summaries of areas of exploration and collections of "resources", mostly printed from the internet; the digital version on the city's website is a collection of scanned PDFs:
