Born in Ann Arbor, Michigan, he received a BA from St. Lawrence University and an MFA in creative writing from George Mason University. On walks with his wife and young son, he often passes the original Argus Camera building.

In the news

Amick’s debut novel, “The Lake, the River & the Other Lake,” was named a 2006 Michigan Notable Book and got great reviews. But the sexual situations in that story, of the Michigan lake resort town of Weneshkeen and some of its more colorful characters, were too frank for the Jonesville District Library, which ultimately took a pass on Amick’s scheduled visit.

Just as Wink is developing into a photographer of note, they are forced to leave Chicago. They end up here, in Ann Arbor, drawn as much by the presence of Argus as by any sense of college-town insular safety: “The bright masonry of the Argus Camera Company headquarters suddenly appeared before them as if plunked down amid the elms and maples.” They begin a new life.
