In late 2006, the Southeast Michigan Health Information Exchange (SEMHIE) consortium identified four host organizations to facilitate planning activities: Altarum Institute, the Greater Detroit Area Health Council, and the Wayne and Oakland County Medical Societies. Altarum was asked to serve as the lead agent, to manage the planning process, and provide project subject matter expertise; Altarum supports the SEMHIE planning and development process by providing project management and subject matter expertise. Following a comprehensive application to the Michigan Department of Community Health, Altarum was awarded a $1.1M planning grant to further the SEMHIE consortium efforts to plan and implement a health information exchange in Southeast Michigan.
