Reuben Peterson (1862-1942) was a physician, obstetrician, and director of the University of Michigan Hospital from 1911 to 1918. He established Peterson Hospital (later Ann Arbor Private Hospital.

Reuben Peterson was born June 29, 1862 in Boston, Massachusetts. He was educated at Harvard University (A.B. 1885; M.D. 1889). He was in general practice in Grand Rapids, Michigan, from 1890 to 1898. From 1898 to 1901 he was both professor of gynecology at the Post Graduate Medical School of Chicago and assistant professor of obstetrics and gynecology at Rush Medical School. Peterson came to the University of Michigan Medical School in 1901 as professor of obstetrics and gynecology. He remained in this position until 1931. In addition, from 1911 to 1918, Peterson was director of the University of Michigan Hospital.
