Rain water gardens are a means to moderate the flow of rain water in public spaces, to provide many small cachements to briefly hold rain water and perhaps let it seep into the ground water before overflowing and discharging into local creeks and possibly causing flooding.

Locally, rain water gardens have been implemented on Easy Street, and at the Ann Arbor District Library Mallets Creek Branch, and are planned for Miller Avenue.
