He hadn't completely factored in his investment of time, however. "The X-rays were taking a really long time," he says. "The student would take one X-ray, and the professor would have to review it to be sure the angle was correct." This happened with each X-ray, which was a little uncomfortable for a busy Ph.D. student. The story might have ended with him checking his watch or drumming his fingers, except that Sukovic was working at the time on a combined CT-PET scanner as part of his assistantship with BME Professor Neal Clinthorne.
