The Pfizer Tunnel is a tunnel underneath Huron Parkway. It was privately owned by Pfizer and is located within the City right-of-way in Huron Parkway south of Plymouth Road.

The project includes the inspection and evaluation of fifteen City bridges over the course of the next two years. In 2008, we will inspect the following bridges: Island Drive over the Traver Creek; Maiden Lane over the Huron River; Fuller Road (Eastbound and Westbound) over the Huron River; Huron Parkway over the Huron River, Norfolk Southern Railroad and Geddes Road; Wastewater Treatment Plant Drive over the Huron River; and, E. Stadium Boulevard over S. State Street. In 2009, we will inspect the following bridges: Broadway over the Huron River; Broadway over Depot Street and the Norfolk Southern Railroad; Fuller Road over the Norfolk Southern Railroad; East Medical Center Drive over the Norfolk Southern Railroad; Eisenhower Parkway over the Ann Arbor Railroad; E. Stadium Boulevard over the Ann Arbor Railroad; E. Stadium Boulevard over S. State Street; and the Pfizer Tunnel under Huron Parkway.

The sheer size of the facilities is daunting. You can easily get lost, particularly because the facilities are largely integrated. There’s even an underground tunnel connecting the portions of the campus on opposite sides of Huron Parkway.
Note that buildings A, B and C were under construction in April 2000, while D, E and F hadn't even been started. In addition, Pfizer spent many months building a pedestrian tunnel under Huron Parkway (the north-south street in the photos) and making numerous other changes in parking and landscaping. (I work in the building at the lower right of the bottom photo, the only building in that photo which is not a part of the Pfizer campus, so I've seen it all.) In addition, the city has reworked the traffic patterns several times with islands, left-turn lanes, and relocating sidewalks.
