In March of last year, Bill Bess, the director of DPS at the time, announced his retirement. Shortly after, Hank Baier, associate vice president of Facilities and Operations, appointed a search committee to find a replacement for Bess as the head of DPS.

As the executive director of the Department of Public Safety, Ken has the leadership role in the development and application of policies and procedures for crime prevention, loss prevention, law enforcement, and safety and security services at the university.
