John Henry Holland (b. 2 February 1929; d. 9 August 2015) was Professor of Psychology and Professor of Electrical Engineering and Computer Science at the University of Michigan, Ann Arbor. He is a pioneer in complex system and nonlinear science. He is known as the father of genetic algorithms.

John Holland, a professor of psychology, electrical engineering, and computer science at the U-M, was wandering in the mathematics library one day in 1955, when he spotted a book on genetics. As world changing ideas go, that was his "ah-ha" moment.
