Ranging from the Upper Peninsula down to Florida, I-75 follows the rough path of the old Dixie Highway. Here's places to stop along the way.

St Ignace

If it's a holiday break, you'll find students from Michigan Tech at the McDonald's.

Mackinac Bridge

No stopping on the bridge, please. You can get a nice view of it from the "Bridge View" part on the UP side.

Mackinaw City

Fudge!

Wolverine

At the wolverine exit head towards town, there is a playground and park near the river and the old depot.

Gaylord

There is an artists colony in East Jordan west of gaylord.

Grayling

Hartwick Pines is a park with a stand of old timber.

Scenic Overlook, Mile 317 Northbound

On northbound I-75 in Cheboygan County, near mile marker 317, is a Michigan Department of Transportation (M-DOT) rest area and scenic overlook. It's indicated by a solid black triangle on the state highway map.

From the main observation deck in the center, you'll have a great vantage point from which to watch the cars and trucks whizzing past on I-75. Don't be shy -- give them a wave! You'll be surprised how many will notice you and wave back; the deck is easily visible to motorists.

The Do The Wave letterbox is hidden at this rest stop, with directions to let you find it.
