Hugh "Jeep" Holland, a University of Michigan student was captivated by the mid-'1960s rock music explosion. While running Discount Records on State Street, he threw himself into the local scene as an agent, manager, producer and supporter of area bands and musicians, including the SRC, The Rationals and Discount stock boy Jim Osterberg. He founded A-Square Records to promote his bands and the local music scene in general. The storied music lineups at Detroit's Grande Ballroom were overseen by Jeep, who died in 1998.
