Euchre in history

Euchre has been a popular card game on the University of Michigan campus since at least the 1880s, when the Michigan Argonaut of January 17, 1885 related:

The progressive euchre party is yet abroad in the land Last Monday evening some sixteen couples assembled at the residence of J. Q. A. Sessions and proceeded to euchre each other to their heart's content. Mr Bowdish won the first prize and Mr Ackley took charge of the booby's horn. The fact that the party lasted until the wee sma' hours in sufficient evidence that a most enjoyable evening was spent by all.
