Eastern Michigan University is the second largest university in Washtenaw County. EMU is often in the shadow of the University of Michigan, but is a high-quality university in its own right. The Education program, among others, is nationally renowned - EMU was formerly known as Michigan Normal College, and was founded as a school for educating teachers in 1849.
