Regent Ilitch, a Democrat from Bingham Farms, received her B.A. degree from the University of Michigan in 1977 and her J.D. degree from the University of Detroit in 1980. She is president of Ilitch Enterprises, owner of Denise Ilitch Designs, and the owner and publisher of Ambassador Magazine, a leading Detroit lifestyle magazine. Regent Ilitch is also "of counsel" at Clark Hill PLC, where she advises clients in the areas of business practice, corporate law, and government policy.

Denise Ilitch was elected to the Board of Regents in 2008. Her term expired January 1, 2017.
