Dascola Barbers is a barber shop at 304 S. State Street run by Bob Dascola and Ron Barnet. It offers full service for the whole family, including haircuts and shaves. According to its website, appointments are preferred but walk-ins are also welcome. Call ahead for appointments: (734) 668-9329.
Dascola Barbers has a long history, extending back to 1939 when Bob Dascola's father, Dom, bought Groomwells Barber and Beauty shop at 615 E. Liberty Street. Dom and his brother, Ernie, worked together until Ernie opened his own shop at Arborland Mall in the 1960s. Dom eventually opened another barber shop at Maple Village, leaving the Liberty Street location to a third brother, Patsy. Bob graduated from Greene's Barber College in 1966 and worked with Ernie at the Arborland location until he moved into a barber shop of his own called U-M Barbers at 611 E. University. Bob subsequently opened the "original" Dascola Barbers on Liberty Street in 1983 before moving to the current State Street location in January 2002 due to rent inflation.
Ron Barnet attended Major's Beauty School and the Detroit Barber College and has been a barber since the age of 17. He has worked at Dascola Barbers for more than two decades.
