Cake Nouveau specializes in creating high-end, custom cakes for weddings, birthdays, and other special events. Cake Nouveau has also become known for their unique and delicious flavors of cupcakes. Every Friday and Saturday they have four different flavors of cupcakes, though vanilla and chocolate are always in the mix. None of them are bad; the fruit flavors are especially good, however, many people are devoted chocolate fans as well. They also offer these little chocolate dipped balls of cake called Cake Truffles. They come in a wide assortment of flavors, and are really quite good. Cake Nouveau also offers two unique flavors of cookies daily, and occasionally offers seasonal cookies. For special holidays or events, they make an amazingly rich chocolate ganache tart.

Cake Nouveau's assortment of treats, as well as some other unique creations (cake and buttercream layered into martini or parfait glasses?) can be ordered for pick up or delivery in any quantity for any event. Advance notice is required for most orders, and people are often turned down for last minute cakes as they book up their dates often up to a month in advance. Plan ahead if you want to order a cake from them!

Owner and Chef Courtney Clark opened her first Ann Arbor store in November 2006. In May of 2010, Cake Nouveau moved to a brand new location on Packard St, near Stadium Ave. The new location is very cute and colorful, and has a room that is being used for cake decorating classes and other events, and can even be rented for birthday parties. They have recently hosted several birthday parties, for groups of all ages, in which party goers were able to decorate cookies, cupcakes, and even cakes.

Chef Courtney Clark has also gained national attention through participation in cake competitions for TV channels such as the Food Network and TLC. She has won several medals, which are on display at the store. There are also a few incredible display cakes that can be seen at the store. The shop's birthday cake and running shoe cake are incredible!

Cake Nouveau offers special deals on a regular basis to subscribers of their newsletter and Facebook fans. Sign up for the newsletter on their homepage and you will get one email each week that contains a coupon, as well as information about special events, classes, weekly flavors, and fun pictures of cakes done that week. There are also many photos (and comments) on their Facebook page, posted by both Cake Nouveau and fans of Cake Nouveau.

On October 8th, 2014, Cake Nouveau announced in their newsletter the "impending closure" of the business.

Cake Nouveau owner Courtney Clark plans to close her Ann Arbor bakery to spend more time with her family.

Clark notified customers of the impending closure in a newsletter this week. In an email interview with The Ann Arbor News, Clark said she has decided to put her family first, and plans to close the shop at 1924 Packard St. within the next several months.

"I really never thought I would be in a position where I would be closing our shop, but the addition of two babies in three years has definitely changed my way of thinking," Clark said. "I put in very long hours, and the lifestyle of a chef is not always conducive to raising a family."
