Ashley Clague owned Clague's Grocery, located at 1200 Packard for  42 years. He was a member of Kiwanis and a president of the club.  Mr Clague served on the Ann Arbor School Board from 1941 to 1956, including 3 years as President of the Board. In the 1947 School Board election he tied for 3rd place, a tie that was broken when he won the drawing of lots, and thus, he was re-elected.  He also served 19 years on the Ann Arbor Parks Commission. Clague Middle School was named for him in recognition of his long service on the Ann Arbor School Board.
