The Ann Arbor Electric Granite Works was a stone cutting shop at 6 Detroit Street. (Detroit Street has since been renumbered).

Some history:

German immigrant Anton Eisele opened a marble works in 1868.

His stepson John Baumgardner took over the business on Eisele's death in 1887, and renamed it Baumgardner's Marble Works.

Baumgardner was one of the first in Ann Arbor to use electricity, and renamed the business the Ann Arbor Electric Granite Works, referring to the electrical machines used to polish the stones.

In 1896, it was owned by John Baumgardner, and Charles A. Cole was in his employ.

In 1900, Cole and Darwin Hand purchased the firm; Cole bought out Hand's interest in 1901.

In 1906, Cole is still running the business.
