Alexander Winchell (b. 1824; d. 1891) was a professor of geology at the University of Michigan and director of the Geological Survey of Michigan.

Papers include extensive diaries, field notes and maps from travels and geological expeditions, correspondence, speeches, articles and other publications and photographs.
