According to the date on the front of the building, the Robert W. Hemphill Home was built in 1845. One of the Underground Railroad slave tunnels was said to have connected the house to the river. Robert Hemphill was an early banker here.

Part of this cobblestone house dates from 1845 and was a home to the Folletts Family and later the Hemphills.
